이력
Aníbal Vallejo (b. 1975) studied fine arts at the University of
Antioquia and then fashion design in the Colombian College of
Design, both in the city of Medellin. Subsequently he settled in
Europe where he complemented his training as a painter in several
countries: England, Spain, Italy and then moved to New York City.
For more than twelve years he has participated in several
exhibitions in galleries, museums and international art fairs. He
currently lives and works in Medellin, Colombia.
Vallejo’s work focuses on the boundaries of painting and its
possibilities. Beyond the formal and conventional techniques he
wants to search new forms to be integrated into the process. His
training, as a plastic artist and fashion designer, made him
interested in elements outside the world of painting, which he
tries to bring into the work: threads, fabrics, jewelry, industrial
embroidery and especially hand embroidery that has the intimate
character which reveals the true essence of things; materials that
are converted into plastic elements just as valid as the oil,
acrylic, graphite or charcoal. The thread acquires special force
because it rescues the gesture and plasticity of it with the value
added of the tridimensional. Throughout this research of techniques
Vallejo looks forward to remain faithful to traditional
painting.
Vallejo’s work has had solo and group exhibitions in Colombia,
Denmark, US, Italy, Mexico and Spain.
He
belongs to MAMM (Museum of Modern Art) and Antioquia Museum Public
Collections in Colombia.
