With over a decade of practice, artist Samson Young has made audiences question and examine their relationship to sound and music, and their relationship to history, politics and identity through sound.

Absolut announced the finalists for its 2017 Absolut Art Award today, which gives prizes in two categories, Art Work and Art Writing.

It’s been an extraordinary couple of years for the Hong Kong-based composer and sound artist Samson Young. Young was awarded the first BMW Art Journey at Art Basel in Hong Kong in 2015, which allowed the artist to travel across five continents to study and record historic bells to create a “sonic history of conflicts,” and he has been traveling the world since. His sound projects and performances have made the rounds of the international art fair circuit, with commissions, films, and projects for all three Art Basel editions as well as Frieze London. He has had solo exhibitions in Hong Kong, Taipei, Hiroshima, New York, Kolkata, and now Düsseldorf, boarded an international commercial cargo ship for an artist residency, and was just nominated for the 2017 Absolut Art Award. Add to all that, later this year, Young will represent Hong Kong at the 57th Venice Biennale.

Hong Kong and Shanghai based Edouard Malingue Gallery will be participating in the FIAC 2016 in Paris from October 20 through October 23, 2016.

The fourteenth edition of Frieze London opens today in Regent’s Park. The fair has drawn more than 160 galleries from thirty countries and will run until October 9.

Art Basel and BMW are pleased to announce Samson Young as the first BMW Art Journey winner. The BMW Art Journey will allow Young to embark on a creative journey across five continents. Young will undertake a worldwide tour of iconic bells, documenting them and creating works of visual art and music composition in response to them. Samson Young was one of three shortlisted artists selected from this year’s Discoveries sector at Art Basel’s show in Hong Kong.
