이력

Glasgow-based artists Joanne Tatham (born 1971 in West Yorkshire) and Tom O’Sullivan (born 1967 in Norfolk) have been producing work collaboratively since 1995. Using a range of media including sculpture, text, performance and photography, Tatham and O’Sullivan have evolved a unique visual language that continuously restages recognizable forms and figures – pyramids, wedges, stick men – transforming these didactic codes into mysterious and opaque symbols that defy any straightforward interpretation. Engaging with the legacy of Conceptual Art, Tatham and O’Sullivan create esoteric objects and performances that aim to channel thought. Their perplexing works alternately serve as framing devices to activate a particular site, or as material enigmas that raise questions around the limits of material things and the legitimacy of particular forms in relation to given content.

Tatham and O’Sullivan have recently presented solo exhibitions at CCA, Glasgow (2010), La Salle de Bains, Lyon (2009), Eastside Projects, Birmingham (2009), Sutton Lane, Paris (2008), Galerie Francesca Pia, Zurich (2008) and Smart Project Space, Amsterdam (2007). Their work has also been shown in numerous museums and international exhibitions, including the Glasgow International Visual Art Festival, Glasgow (2010), “The Great Transformation; Art and Tactical Magic” at Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt touring to Museo de Arte Contemporánea de Vigo, Vigo (2008), “Art Now Live'” at Tate Britain (2006), “Scotland & Venice: Selective Memory”, the Scottish Pavilion for the 51st Venice Biennale (2005), "Zenomap", the Scottish Pavilion for the 50th Venice Biennale (2003) and the 2nd Berlin Biennial (2001).

Joanne Tatham and Tom O’Sullivan are represented by The Modern Institute, Glasgow, Galerie Francesca Pia, Zurich and Sutton Lane, London, Brussels and Paris.
