Is everything already said? Are we only able to quote from now on? Isn't it the aim of art to dare the New?

It doesn't really matter if everything is already done and if it is impossible to create something completely new. The more important is that the "New" should make us feel astonished. And by the the way, it is all about the individual point of view: New is that and can be considered as that what is new for me albeit it already appeared in the history of mankind. Things may be already done, said, produced but they were not really transmitted.

A "new" artwork can only refer mimetical to already existing artworks. Every single new work is a quotation and integrated into an artful contiguous linkage. The artist works out the differenciation between the original and the copy and reveals that linkage in order to characterize art itself ....however, not without imposing a transformation.

In the exhibition, there will be presented two works which deal with the relation between the original and the quotation.

Firstly, we will see the performance/installation „Form it able“ which emerged from the live performance in the heaterforum Kreuzberg with 14 models and which was shown to the audience on August 10, 2010. The exhibition itself will show the relicts of that performance, for instance the pedestals, music stands, the images of the masterpieces which were created during the past centuries in the course of art history and the video documentation of the performance as well.

In this junction, the exhibited work „Form it able“ is a quotation itself: the artist and the models quote these master pieces, that where so significant in the art history, by re-enacting the painted scenes. The idea of quoting becomes more striking, when  the models do not play an active role but were being brought into position by the audience. Through the delegation of the responsibility from the model to the audience this quotation comes to its own.

When it comes then to the exhibition, this idea is put forward. There, the visitors are supposed to imitate the situation seen in the pictures on the canterburies on the empty pedestrals and so to contribute their own quotation. Thefore, the empty spaces provide an opportunity for further quotations based on former quotations.

However, this multiple reflexions on reflexions in „Form it able“ are made up through the live performance „Defiant“ during the exhibition opening; the artist Nezaket Ekici stands on a pedestral in front of the huge projection space and wears a dress which is covered with 4000 toothpicks. The projection space as well her movements can be observed at the same time so that the original and the quotation seem to melt into each other. But the spiky dress functions symbolically as an obstacle that ensures that the observer does not get too much closed to the phenomenon of quoting and the original: the dress keeps the audience in distance. Consequently, the distinction of the original and the quotation appears to defend itself defiantly, in its very essence, against obsession and receipt. Although one might say, the original and the quotation meet each other on one spot without any distinction.
