INTERSECTION 2008

Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock and Outpost for Contemporary Art have collaborated to organize , which is a multi-sited public installation project that brings artistic interventions into businesses. This project features 17 temporary art installations by artists who live and/or work in North East Los Angeles. For this project, Outpost for Contemporary Art sought artists whose site-related projects augment or set off what is naturally occurring within York Blvd. businesses. Included are artists who have used a particular business context as a jumping off point for their work. For example, Enrique Castrejon worked inside a flower shop to create an intricately woven paper funereal wreath that memorializes children who have lost their lives in Iraq. Jay Lizo has installed a sandwich board outside a beauty salon to convey philosophical and popular messages about beauty. Luisa Van Leer worked with a print and banner shop to create a Highland Park flag that will be hung on the business's flag pole. The aim behind is to promote business and develop relationships among artists and non-artists who share the same community.
