Ulrich Gebert (b. 1976 Munich, Germany) received his MA in Photography from Royal College of Art in London in 2006. He also studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig and at Glasgow School of Art. He is a recipient of Marion Ermer Award.  Selected solo exhibtions include This Much is Certain at Winkleman Gallery New York, Trophäenzimmer at Kunstverein Hildesheim, Germany, Amerika at Laboratorio de Arte Joven de Murcia, Spain, and Typus at ASPN Gallery, Leipzig, Germany.  He is represented by Klemm’s in Berlin and Winkleman Gallery in New York. Ulrich Gebert lives and works in Leipzig.

Ulrich Geberts work is often about man's appropriation of nature and the inherent problematics behind the term "culture". His chosen themes have most of the times a hidden political diemension. In "Typus" (2005) for example, Gebert adresses scientific disputes about nomenclature in botany in order to critically examine human's ordering impetus up to concepts of racist thinking. His recent works deal with our relationship to animals, using the Zoo as a metaphoric backdrop to analyse the human aim to dominate ("Life Among Beasts", 2009).
