BIOGRAPHY
Lisa Tan (born 1973, Syracuse, NY, USA) is an artist living in
Stockholm. Tan works mostly in video, photography and installation.
She engages literature, literary theory and various historical and
personal references to materially explore the intricate
relationship between language, image, and experience. A new book on
her recent series of videos, Sunsets, Notes From Underground,
Waves, is published by Archive Books.
Her work has been included in exhibitions at institutions and
galleries such as the New Museum (New York), Kadist Art Foundation
(Paris), Artists Space (New York), Lofoten International Festival
Norway (LIAF), Centro Galego de Arte Contemporáneo (Santiago
de Compostela), Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara, El Centro
Cultural Montehermoso (Vitoria-Gasteiz), ICA Philadelphia, Temple
Bar Gallery + Studios (Dublin), LAXART (Los Angeles), Galleri Riis
(Stockholm), Galerie Nordenhake (Stockholm), Galerie VidalCuglietta

Lisa Tan completed a practice-based PhD at the University of
Gothenburg, Valand Academy. She received an MFA from the University
of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles. She has given lectures,
led theory and practice seminars, and performed MA reviews at the
Laboratory for Art and Research at the Institute for Art and Art
Theory/ Intermedia, University of Cologne, Parsons The New
School for Design, Fine Arts Department (New York), the University
of Gothenburg, Valand Academy, The Royal Institute of Art
(Stockholm), Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and
Design (Stockholm), and the Iceland Academy of the Arts
(Reykjavík).
She is represented by Galleri Riis in Stockholm, Sweden and Oslo, Norway. Lisa Tan now lives and works in New York and Stockholm.
