Nicholas Di Genova draws on the influence of video games, Otaku culture, anime, comic books and animal compendiums. Working with ink and animation paints, Di Genova's paintings on mylar highlight his skill with line and the subtleties of colour. Always intense and intricately executed, Di Genova's work has garnered all levels of press in Canada, featuring reviews in numerous online forums, NOW and EYE Magazines, The Globe and Mail, and Canadian Art. He has recently been featured in New York's Armory Show and in†Future Species, curated by David Liss at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art. Informed by an affinity for both science and mythology, Nicholas Di Genova is interested in creating chimeras as a way to explore allegories that reflect his world view. By employing formal design methods appropriated from the fields of traditional cel animation and historical natural science illustration, Di Genova tries to create pieces with a solid conceptual backbone that still manage to captivate the viewer with their imagination and technical execution. Always intense and intricately executed, Di Genova's work has garnered all levels of press, featuring reviews in Artforum, the New York Times, The Globe and Mail, and Canadian Art Magazine, as well as numerous online forums. His work has been collected by various institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Claudine and Jean-Marc Solomon collection.
