BIOGRAPHY
Kevin Appel (b. 1967 Los Angeles) received a BFA from Parsons School of Design in New York in 1990, and an MFA from the University of California Los Angeles in 1995. In 1999 he received the Citibank Private Bank Emerging Artist Award from the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, in 2011 the California Community Foundation Fellowship for Visual Artists, and in 2008 he was named a Two Rooms Artist-in- Residence in Auckland, New Zealand. Selected solo exhibitions include Paintings at Susanne Viemetter Los Angeles (2012), Ameringer McEnery Yohe New York (2014), Christopher Grimes Gallery Santa Monica (2013), Small Paintings at Marianne Boesky in New York (2007); Anthony Wilkinson Gallery in London (2006); and Angles Gallery in Los Angeles (2006), Description Sin Lugar at The Museo Ruffino Tamayo in Mexico City (catalog, 2003), and The Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles (catalog, 1999). Selected group exhibitions include: Endless House: Intersections of Art and Architecture, Museum of Modern Art New York (2015), XL: Large-Scale Paintings from the Permanent Collection, The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, Vassar, Poughkeepsie, NY (2015), Counterparts: Contemporary Painters and their Influences at the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia in Virginia Beach, Virginia (catalogue, 2007), Drawing Now: Eight Propositions at The Museum of Modern Art New York (catalogue 2002), and Painting At the Edge of the World at the Walker Art Center Minneapolis (catalogue 2001). He is represented by Ameringer McEnery Yohe in New York, Christopher Grimes Gallery in Santa Monica, and Two Rooms Gallery in Auckland.
 
Kevin Appel lives and works in Los Angeles, he is a Professor at The University of California Irvine.
