Born in Istanbul in 1971, Ali Kazma is a video artist who received his MA degree from The New School in New York City. In 2000, he returned to Istanbul, where he still resides. Working mainly in video his practice raises fundamental questions about the meaning and significance of human activity and labor and the meaning of economy, production, and social organization. In 2007 his work was included in the International Istanbul Biennial, the Athens Biennale and the Lyon Biennial. Participation in previous important institutions and Biennials includes the 9th Havana Biennial and San Francisco Art Institute in 2006, Cetinje Biennial and Istanbul Modern in 2004, Platform Center for Contemporary Art, Istanbul in 2003 and the Tokyo Opera City in 2001.
