The work of Berlin-based, Swiss artist Rolf Graf is a thoroughly heterogenetic, complex synthesis of media and materials. Despite the artists' reluctance to use bold gesture or explicitly explore any one particular "theme", the work develops an investigation into questions of perception, personal identity and analogy. Though Graf often works from personal observations and memories, the works are the result of a reflected processing of distancing, allowing access to the outside viewer. Graf was born in 1969 in Heiden and studied at the Ecole supérieure d’art visuel in Genf and the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Jannis Kounellis. He is currently represented by Galerie Ruzicska/Weiss (Düsseldorf) and Susanna Kulli in St. Gallen.
