Thom Merrick (b. 1963 Sacramento, California) has made astonishingly different works in painting, sculpture and installation. For twenty years, his aesthetic has been extremely mobile, both spiritually and physically. Living between New York and Europe since the mid-eighties, his pictorial world champions brevity and conceptual tactics on the one hand, and personal eccentricity on the other. Selected solo exhibitions include Intervention: Thom Merrick, Sprengel Museum Hannover, Hannover (1997), Composition Blue and White, Künstlerhaus, Bregenz (1998), and Composition In Green and White, P.S.1 Center of Contemporary Art, New York (1999). Selected group exhibitions include Documenta IX, Kassel (1992) , I love New York, Museum Ludwig, Köln (1998), The Split Personality Madman, Central House of Artists, Moscow, Air-Air, Grimaldi Forum, Monaco (2000), Künstlerräume / Sammlerräume, Kunstmuseum, St.Gallen (2001), Einfach, Kunst Museum Nürnberg, Nürnberg (2002), L'Idiotie, Domaine Pommery, Reims, France (2005), Sweet Temptations, Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Switzerland (2005), and Thom Merrick, Kunsthalle Göppingen, Germany (2005). He is represented by Galerie Susanna Kulli in Zurich. Thom Merrick currently lives in the Mojave Desert.
