Andrea Galvani is an Italian artist based in Brooklyn whose work
mostly draws from disciplines associated to scientific
methodologies. His conceptual research is represented mostly
through photography. However, the artist also works through video,
drawing, and installation. In his photography, Galvani captures a
fixed reality that is deconstructed. There is an intrinsic
relationship between experience and hazard in the physical
limitations of the sites he uses for his work. This ultimately
becomes the deciding factor when choosing the setting for a new
project.
Galvani has shown at international venues including: the Whitney
Museum in New York, the 4th Moscow Biennale for Contemporary Art,
the Calder Foundation in New York, and the Mart Museum of Modern
and Contemporary Art in Trento, Italy. He received the New York
Exposure Prize in 2011.
Galvani received his BFA in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts
in Bologna, and his MFA in visual art from Bilbao University. He
completed artist residencies at the Location One International
Artist Residency Program New York (2008), the Lower Manhattan
Cultural Council (2009), and the Trinity Project/Columbia
University Department of Fine Arts (2010).
