Born in 1963 in Cervica, Italy, Alessandro Pessoli lives and works in Milan. Pessoli uses a variety of media, including painting, video and sculpture. His works often suggest elaborate narratives, punctuated by a number of art historical references ranging from Goya to Daumier. Comical, sinister, melancholic and grotesque, Pessoli’s characters appear riddled with existential anxiety. Combined with the fluidity of enamel on canvas, Pessoli’s dynamic touch exacerbates the works' nightmarish depiction of reality, outlining in crude strokes the set of tragic Balzacian dramas.
Alessandro Pessoli has recently presented solo exhibitions at Marc Foxx Gallery, Los Angeles, CA (2017) MAN Museo d'arte della Provincia di Nuoro, Sardinia (2016), at Palazzo della Triennale of Milano, Milan, Italy (through 2016), at Nouveau Musée National de Monaco, Montecarlo, Monaco, Xavier Hufkens, Brussels, Belgium, Maramotti Collection, Reggio Emilia, Italy (2011) along importat shows at MACRO Museo d'Arte Contemporanea Roma, Rome (2009), Anton Kern Gallery, New York (2009), Marc Foxx, Los Angeles (2008), Studio Guenzani, Milan (2008) and Greengrassi, London (2007).
