Showcase of the artistic scene of the DRC, the Rencontres Picha, Lubumbashi Biennale, trying to explore the latest developments in contemporary art by bringing together every two years, alongside the Congolese artists, international artists in different fields of expression . Filantes realities, the exhibition of the 4th edition of the Biennale Lubumbashi unfolds in several places. It has three components at three locations: the National Museum of Lubumbashi, the Institute of Fine Arts, the Halle de l'Etoile / French Institute.
Title Realities Filantes is freely borrowed from the great poet, philosopher and writer Edouard Glissant from Martinique. It provides a theoretical framework and action that half-open spaces of invention, possible territories. The exhibitions and events proposed for the 4th Biennial question the way that is both diverse and complex that artists actually fear a "disposable", where nothing seems destined to last. In what types of actions the artists should they commit to face the tyranny of emergency imposed by the neoliberal order? Are works of art effective benchmarks for a reappropriation of reality?
The three parts of the exhibition offer a vast registry works, video, photography, installation, sculpture, painting. The integration works, divided in different spaces, does not obey the orthodox model of dominant exposure practices. It points to an obligation to build a framework adapted to proposals from artists, conducive to creating a dynamic and stimulating unleash unpredictable, intuition. Through the multiplicity of techniques, the works ask their exhibition context and contribute to question the role of art in our understanding of reality.
