MACRO museum of contemporary art and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo are proud to present PLUS ULTRA, a selection of major works from the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Collection, curated by Francesco Bonami, at MACRO Testaccio, Rome from 17 December 2010 to 20 March 2011.
This is the first time a group exhibition featuring works from Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo’s collection have been shown in Rome, presenting an important selection of Italian and International artists who have made the story of art from the Eighties up to today.
PLUS ULTRA, which takes its name from a work featured in the exhibition by Polish artist Goshka Macuka (previewed at the 2009 edition of the Venice Biennale) presents the work of thirty-eight artists utilizing painting, sculpture, video, photography and installation, offering an in depth insight into today’s art.
Among the artists featured in the show are:
John Bock, Thomas Demand, Damien Hirst, Pawel Althamer, Carsten Höller, Sarah Lucas, Tobias Rehberger, Piotr Uklanski, Cerith Wyn Evans, Maurizio Cattelan, Giuseppe Gabellone, Diego Perrone, Paola Pivi and Patrick Tuttofuoco.
The Collection has been built up over the years by acquiring works by artists prior to them making it big on the international contemporary art scene, many who have gone on to have solo exhibitions in some of the world’s top museums and with works featured in major collections.
A journey through thirty years of collecting, flanked by the latest acquisitions in the Collection, including works by Tauba Auerbach, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Jon Kessler, Robert Kusmirowski, Goshka Macuga, Hugo Markl, João Onofre, Bojan Sarcevic and Piotr Uklanski.
PLUS ULTRA will be accompanied by a bilingual catalogue in Italian and English featuring a conversation between Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo and Luca Massimo Barbero as well as a text by Francesco Bonami and in depth texts about each of the works.
The exhibition will also be flanked by a range of educational activities and special visits, offering a more detailed explanation of the works on show.
