Servet Kocyigit's ( b. 1971, Kaman, Turkey) body of works have been developed using a diverse range of media that includes photography, video, text, interventions and installations. His poetic and ironic works host a touch of humor as they play with reality, by staging familiar but strange scenarios from every day life in which unexpected actions occur. Kocyigit likes to provoke the viewer to question their understanding and perceptions of everyday life. To do this he has assumed an open, global visual language, which people from every culture can easily relate to, even though the starting point can sometimes come from very local subjects. In his recent works Kocyigit focuses, with a hopeful insight, on social issues such as dislocation, prejudice, poverty, gender conflicts, war and its consequences.
