Goro Murayama was born in 1983 in Tokyo, Japan. Murayama creates artworks through a unique and organic systematic process that cycles through four activities: weaving strings together, applying a ground, painting patterns upon it, and then viewing the results. This process repeats like a circuit, alternating between the making of the 'canvas' and the act of painting/drawing. He sees the relation between two as a kind of interpenetration, not just of materials but processes too.The works constantly change due to both the system and his own choices, causing the painting to take shape in a form that cannot be anticipated.Formal decisions that are deemed to be good are repeated, thus giving reinforcing the method and then repeated further. Of course repetition can also be monotonous, but the method ensures repetitive/bad decisions are phased out, allowing a kind of 'drift of learning' to develop.
