  • Documenta 14 is so vast, dispersed, and enigmatic, that it is literally impossible to experience all of it (not to mention that the other half of the quinquennial exhibition has yet to take place, in Kassel, Germany). Yet the earnest visitor should make the effort, while in Athens, not only to take in what he or she can of the international offerings of documenta, but to wander off the beaten path of the biennial map, and sample what the local art scene of Athens has to offer.

BIOGRAPHY

Born 1978 in Limassol, Cyprus.

Christodoulos Panayiotou’s works are performance-based and collectively span every level of what one could describe as a spectrum of the performative in art– from creating a space for an activity such as dancing, directing actors and events, to the recording and tracing of both the artist’s and society’s ‘performances’. Formed in a range of media, often incorporating video and sound within installation Panayiotou’s aesthetic interventions often reference political stimuli and yet can be read in a multitude of ways.

His 2011exhibitions include Incongru.Quand L’Art Fait Rire, Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Art, Lausanne, Switzerland (2011); Beyond, KUMU Art Museum of Estonia, Tallin, Estonia (2011); The Hand, The Eye & The Heart, Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland, Australia (2011); Revisiting Time, La Plate-Forme, FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais, France (2011); Emotional Blackmail, Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Lethbridge, Canada (2011); You Are Not Alone, Joan Miro Foundation, Barcelona, Spain (2011); Snail Fever, Third Line Gallery, Dubai, UAE (2011); Based in Berlin, Neuer Berliner Kunstverein and other various locations (2011); The End of Money, Witte de With, Rotterdam, The Netherlands (2011); Christodoulos Panayiotou, Museum of Contemporary Art Leipzig, The Future of Europe Prize, Leipzig, Germany (2011); I Know Something About Love, Parasol Unit, London, UK (2011); Kaleidoscope Arena, Roma - The Road to Contemporary Art, Rome, Italy (2011); Christodoulos Panayiotou, Norrlands Operan, Vita Kuben, Umea, Sweden (2011).
