APT INSTITUTE INTRODUCES A NEW APPROACH TO ART ENGAGEMENT

New York City, February 12, 2014 – APT Institute, a nonprofit organization founded by Artist Pension Trust® (APT) in 2013 in response to the needs among contemporary artists for international exposure and recognition of their artwork, is pleased to officially launch today a new approach to art engagement. Its Loans & Exhibitions service is the first and only fully-automated online artwork lending platform. Granting unprecedented access to the APT Collection, curators, art professionals and art researchers can easily borrow from the largest curated collection of international contemporary art comprising over 10,000 artworks including painting, photography, sculpture, installation, new media and works on paper by more than 2,000 artists from 75 countries. The collection is curated by APT’s international curatorial team, including Adam Budak, June Yap and Andrew Renton. Art Concierge, APT Institute’s second initiative, fosters a customized art experience that connects curators with APT artists for collaborative projects. Designed to enhance curatorial research and exhibition planning, Art Concierge utilizes its global art network to arrange for meetings between traveling curators with local APT artists.
Moti Shniberg, founder of APT Institute, and co-founder and Chairman of APT and MutualArt, noted:
“We established APT Institute in view of growing requests from curators, museum directors and galleries to have better access to the APT Collection and to APT artists. We believe that artworks should be displayed in exhibitions in order to promote artists’ international exposure; and we encourage personal relationships between our community and the art world to boost creative collaboration.”
In 2013, APT Collection artworks were featured in over 200 exhibitions in preeminent museums and institutions around the world, including: Sherif El-Azma’s video installation “Powerchord skateboard” (2007) at Tate Modern; Jia Chang’s “Sitting young girl” (2009) at the Seoul Museum of Art; Sanford Biggers’ “Jóia Do Orixá” (2011) at ABSOLUT X New York, Roseland Ballroom. Currently, Hanson/Sonnenberg’s “Chandelier” (2006) and “Fence” (2004) are on view at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax.
Renowned British curator David Elliot, member of APT Institute’s Advisory Board and former Director of Tokyo’s Mori Museum, commented:
