Marcello Maloberti
Born in 1966 in Codogno, Italy, Marcello Maloberti lives and works between Milan and Lisbon. Drawing on the spirit of the carnival as a source of inspiration, Maloberti’s theatrical installations, performances, videos and photographs play with viewers’ expectations, at times literally involving them into the piece. His works often take the form of carefully staged tableaux that extend a moment in time while provoking a subtle confrontation between spectator and performer. They appear as drawn out freeze-frames of an event at the breaking point between movement and inertia. Suspended in time, Maloberti’s pieces are literally held in a state of tension, charged with the promise of a denouement that is constantly postponed in order to retain the viewer’s full attention.
Recent solo exhibitions include “Circus” at Galleria Francesco Pantaleone, Palermo (2007), “Tagadà” at Galleria Raffaella Cortese, Milan (2007) and “Marcello Maloberti” at Fondazione Lanfranco Baldi, Pelago (2006). Maloberti’s work has also shown as part of “The people's choice” at Isola art center, Milan (2006), “Light Lab. Cortocircuiti quotidiani” at Museion, Bolzano (2005), “Anteprima Torin”o, the Rome Quadriennale at Palazzo della Promotrice delle Belle Arti, Turin (2004) and “Prague Biennale 1 – peripheries become center” at the National Gallery, Prague (2003).
Marcello Maloberti is represented by Galleria Raffaella Cortese, Milan.
